Angela Reed Hinchey – Rutland
Angela Reed Hinchey 85, died July 17, 2025 at her residence.
She was born February 18, 1940 in Rutland on February 18, 1940, the loving daughter of Francis Nathaniel and Katherine (Culliney) Hinchey; she was of Irish Catholic stock. Her Hinchey ancestors were from Bodyke, County Clare, Ireland, coming to this country in the 1850’s, one branch settling in Rutland another in Hydeville and Fair Haven. On her paternal grandmother’s line, she was a direct descendant of James Mead, Rutland’s first white settler.
Her life was devoted to art, as a viewer, practitioner, and teacher. She received a Master of Arts degree and Master of Fine Arts degrees in painting from the University of Iowa, and a Master of Arts degree in Art History from Rutgers University. In addition, she studied painting with Milton Resnick at the New York Studio School, New York City in the 1960’s.
She taught art in Rutland public schools at all levels for 30 years. Most of her teaching career was at Rutland High School. She had many wonderful students who had very individual techniques and perceptions.
She loved to travel. In her younger years she would venture to Europe by herself, planning her trips to view the works of certain artists and architectural structures of all periods.
She had two siblings, a brother, Francis N. Hinchey II of Delaware, OH and a sister, Mary Lou Strode of Argyle, NY and seven nieces and nephews. Angela was predeceased by her parents and brother.
She had a wonderful earthly life. Her spirit now begins its eternal journey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday July 21, 2025 at 11 A.M. at St. peters Catholic Church, with the Rev. Richard Crawley as the celebrant.
Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.
