RUTLAND Anne E. (Gilligan) Bates, 89, of Rutland, VT died peacefully Saturday November 9, 2024, at The Pines in Rutland VT.
Anne was born on November 30, 1934, the youngest child of John and Anna (Harrison) Gilligan.
She was a 1952 graduate of Mount Saint Joseph Academy in Rutland, VT. She was the light of the family. She worked many different jobs from a dental hygienist to a school librarian.
She is survived by her daughter Jean (Stephen) Cain of Rutland, VT with whom she made her home since the passing of her husband Robert E. Bates in 1992. Her son Robert J. Bates of Rutland, VT and her daughter Lynn Bates of NC. She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren Meagan (Thomas) Finck of Essex Jct., VT, Michael (Jessica) Kimball of Toano, VA, Ashley Bates of Swanton, VT, Bradley Bates of Simpsonville, SC, and her twin grandchildren Heather Cain of Rutland, VT and James (Amberly) Cain of Rutland, VT. She is also survived by her 6 great grandchildren Declan, Braden, and Noelle of VA, Isaac of Essex Jct., VT, and Weston and Jade of Swanton, VT.
She is predeceased in death by her sister Mary Luderigan and her 8 brothers John, Richard
‘Dicky’, David, Kenneth, Edward ‘Ned’, Thomas ‘Tommy’, Patrick ‘Patsy’, and William ‘Billy’
and other loved ones.
Family meant everything to Anne and her many of nieces and nephews will remember her
with so much love, memories, and stories of the “Holla” Whippie Hollow West Rutland.
A special thanks to a special niece, Darcy Sawyer and to the staff of The Pines for their care and compassion.
Per her wishes, there will be no calling hours. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am on Friday November 15, 2024 at St. Bridget’s Church. A burial will follow at St. Bridget’s Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clifford Funeral Home.
