Barbara A. Guertin, 80, of Rutland, VT passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026, at Rutland Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her family.
Born in Rutland on July 6, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Ralphael and Grace (Wetmore) Fucci and the youngest of four children. She graduated from Rutland High School and briefly lived in Boston before returning home to Rutland.
In 1964, she married Richard “Dick” Guertin, and together they raised four daughters. A devoted caregiver by nature, Barbara opened an in-home daycare and, over her long career as a licensed provider, cared for and helped raise hundreds of children before retiring in 2016. She later returned to caregiving with the Visiting Nurse Association and continued to support family members. Her greatest joy was watching generations of children grow, especially her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Barbara enjoyed time at the family camp in Nova Scotia, traveling, and hosting gatherings filled with laughter, stories, photo albums, and her cherished recipes. In later years, she shared a special companionship with Norbert Ketola, traveling widely while always calling Vermont home.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathi Grace (Terry), Chrissie Littler (Bill), Cindy Doane (Barry), and Sandy Guertin; her bonus daughter, Theresa Jones (Kenny); her grandchildren, Jessie Landau (Justin), Matt Littler (Amy), Kyle Miglorie, Alicia Jones (Will), and Emma Grace; and her great-grandchildren, Isabelle and Richard Littler, and Charlotte Jones. She also leaves many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dick; her parents; her brothers, Bill and Bobby Fucci; and her sister, Betty Holbrook.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to her caregivers—Sue, Ciara, Kathy, Lisa, and Sam—as well as the staff at Rutland Regional Medical Center for their compassionate care.
Special thanks also to her niece Debbie, sister-in-law Joanie, and cousin Sandy for bringing her joy through visits, games, and sweet treats.
Barbara was a lifelong member of Christ the King Church.
Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland is assisting the family with arrangements. There is a funeral scheduled on May 8, 2026, at 11:00 am at Christ the King Church in Rutland, Vt. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. A celebration of life will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to support research for Parkinson’s or dementia-related illnesses.
