Bernard E Lawrence,95, passed on June 3, 2026 with his family at his bedside in the house he built nearly 70 yrs ago. Known lovingly as Grampy, Dad or “ BERNARD “, he was born on August 31, 1930 on Cold River Rd, North Clarendon, VT to Arthur Lawrence and Catherine Pastula.
After completing the eighth grade, he began his many years of employment. His fondest memories were cutting blocks of ice from Eddy Pond for the Eddy Ice Company, making deliveries by horse and cart to each home on his route.
He married Louise Cioffi on September 15, 1951and together they raised four children.
He joined the Army National Guard and was deployed and stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged June 1952.
In 1968 he opened Lawrence Body Shop. He was an excellent auto body repairman and took great pride in his craft. He restored, repaired and painted many vehicles over the years.
In 1980 he converted the auto body shop to The Korner Pocket Bar, which he operated until his retirement in 1984.
Bernie had many wonderful stories about his life experiences and loved to tell them often.
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed sharing this love with his children and grandchildren. Fishing, hunting, picking fiddleheads, mushrooms and berries. He made delicious treats, jams and berry pies.
On any given day he was in his “man cave” waiting for his family and friends to join him for a “beverage” and a story, or to talk about their work and current events. He is survived by his children Steven Lawrence (Cathy Hayes )of Shrewsbury, Vt
Susan Lawrence, Mary Rose Ferrell (Steve) of Rutland, his son in law Bill Dunn from Marlton NJ. His grandchildren Ken O’Rourke(Amanda McTaggart) of Plainfield, VT, Aaron Lawrence(Stephanie Hull) of Shrewsbury Vt
Stephanie Lawrence Roberts (Jameson) of Jericho Vt, Mike Dunn of Marlton NJ and Chris Dunn (Eve Hess) of Marlton NJ. and his sweetheart great granddaughter Marley Sue Roberts.
His sisters Anna Moulton of North Clarendon VT and Margaret Brown of Bedford, NH.
He was pre deceased by his wife Louise, an infant son Baby Bernie, daughter Julie Dunn, brothers James, Paul and Donald Lawrence. Sisters Marie Salerni and Patricia Crosby.
The family would like to thank the VNA Hospice of the Southwest Region for their love care and support.
At Bernie’s request there are no services. A private burial will be held at a later date.
