Brian C. Shaw, Sr., age 76, passed away June 1, 2026, following a short illness.
Brian was born on May 15, 1950. He was the beloved son of the late Kenneth and Margaret Shaw and spent his life in Rutland, VT. Brian attended Rutland High School and later earned his GED. He was a member of The First Baptist Church where he was baptized.
Brian achieved an impressive 40 years of sobriety. A member of Alcoholics Anonymous, he dedicated much of his life to mentoring hundreds of people through their recovery.
Brian proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. The values he gained from his military service; integrity, resilience and devotion to others, remained the foundation of his character. Brian was a member of the American Legion, Post #31 for 51 years. He served as 2nd Vice Commander, Chaplain, Color Guard and was integral in running their weekly Bingo for decades. He was a member and Trustee of The Loyal Order of the Moose. His countless hours to these organizations reflect his dedication of service to others. It is in both organizations that he found his second family.
Brian is survived by his sons Brian Shaw, Jr., Burton Shaw, Brent (Tiffany) Shaw, and his dear grandchildren. He is survived by siblings Kenneth, Keith, Bruce (Karen Marion), Cathie, and Cindy (Scott Matthews), several cousins, nieces and nephews. Brian was predeceased by his beloved son Barry and daughter-in-law April Shaw.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Clifford Funeral Home. Calling hours are Friday, June 26, 2026, 4:00-6:00 with a prayer service immediately following.
Donations, if you wish, can be made in Brian’s memory to The Dodge House, 95 Crescent St. Rutland, Vt. 05701. The Dodge House provides transitional housing for Veterans.
Brian leaves behind a legacy of service, compassion, and unwavering dedication to others.
