Bruce G. Johnston

IRA - Bruce G. Johnston, 69, of Ira, passed away peacefully at Rutland Regional Medical Center on April 9, 2017, after losing a valiant battle with lung cancer.
Bruce was born June 21, 1947, the son of Gordon E. Johnston and Shirley I. (Gilmore) Johnston. He graduated from West Rutland High School in June 1965 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving his country in France and Germany until he was discharged in 1968.
In March 1970, Bruce married Brenda Wight. They had a daughter, Jennifer, whom Bruce adored.
In August of 1990, Bruce and Angela Waters were married.
He loved the outdoors, doing things for other people, his family and all animals, but most of all, he loved his work.
His passion was diesel engines. He broadened his knowledge base and sharpened his skills by attending several diesel mechanic schools around the country while employed by J.P. Carrara & Sons for whom he worked nearly his entire career.
Bruce is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Johnston, of Salem, NH; his sister, Linda Crossman, of Ira; and his sister-in-law, Lynn Johnston, of Rutland; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, aunts and uncles and his brother, Larry.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.
There will be no visiting hours and a graveside celebration of life will be held later at the convenience of the family.
