SHREWSBURY - "Captain" Carl Kavanaugh was called to his heavenly resting place by his Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 22, 2017.
Carl was a well-known and respected pillar of the community and a longtime resident of Shrewsbury. He was known for his great sense of humor, generosity, his love for life, music, many friends and all of God's creation. He was a treasured husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Carl was a quiet and gentle soul, loved by all, and will be dearly missed.
Carl was born in New Brunswick, Canada, May 11, 1932, the son of Patrick and Anita (Gallivan) Kavanaugh.
In 1951, he was married to the love of his life, Nancy Bell (Javery) Kavanaugh.
Carl is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nancy; a son, Kevin Kavanaugh Sr., of Shrewsbury; three daughters, Marcia Woods and her husband, Orville, of Shrewsbury, Betty Ann Dion and her husband, Rodney, of Belmont, NH, and Leanne Hamel, of Clarendon; a brother, Patrick Kavanaugh and his wife, Lorraine, of Ontario, Canada; and many nieces and nephews. His eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren were the apple of his eye. He was predeceased by nine siblings.
Visiting hours will be held at Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland on Friday, April 28, 2017, from 4-6 p.m.
A reception and celebration of life will be held in the lower level of the Village Baptist Church in Belmont on Saturday from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m., directly followed by the funeral service. Rev. Glen Davis, pastor of the Village Baptist Church, will officiate the service.
Private burial services will be held in the Green Hill Cemetery in Wallingford.
