Charlene A. Boretos, 91 a former Rutland resident, passed away May 18, 2021 at UVM Medical Center in South Burlington .
She was born in West Rutland, November 27, 1929, the daughter of Charles and Yvonne (Guindon) Gallagher.
Charlene was a graduate of West Rutland High School.
In 1950 Charlene married the love of her life, George Boretos. They shared 70 years of marriage, a feat few others can match.
She was a former member of Christ the King Church.
Charlene worked in the Rutland Hospital Business Office. She was a Special Educator at Northeast School in Rutland for 20 years.
Charlene was blessed with a beautiful voice that could be heard at St. Bridget’s Church on many occasions. Charlene was a lover of family and especially family game nights. She could play a mean game of 45, was a wise at trivial pursuit and had the best poker face, you never knew if she was bluffing. Charlene traveled to many places and her favorites were Italy and Ireland. She proudly bent and kissed the blarney stone and made it to Vatican City where she saw Pope Paul IV wave to the crown from the Vatican window.
Surviving are her husband, George Boretos of South Burlington; 3 daughters, Elizabeth “Robin” Booraem of South Burlington, Anne Marie Freed and her husband Bill of San Diego, CA and Jeanine Boretos-Barone of Jericho. The three girls blessed Charlene with 8 grandchildren she loved dearly. Priscilla Desjardins and her husband JP of Colchester, VT, Lauren Ozimek and her husband Dan of Colchester, VT, John Barone Jr. of Jericho, Daniel and Samuel Freed of San Diego CA, Sasha and Luke Freed of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Sierra Stump and her husband Alec of Salt Lake City, Utah. The greatest joy of Charlene’s last year was the birth of her great grandson, Benjamin Thomas Desjardins. She was totally content to hold him in her arms. Charlene is also survived by a brother, James Gallagher of Jericho and a sister Elizabeth Egan of Florida.
She is predeceased by her parents and a brother Edward Gallagher.
