Charles Henry McMahon

Charles Henry McMahon (Cowboy or CH in later years), 86 of Rutland Town died unexpectedly on April 22, 2024, at his home.

He was born on August 6, 1937, to William and Gladys (Wright) McMahon in Rutland, VT one of 11 children. He attended Rutland City Public Schools.  He was married in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church to Jacqueline LaFlamme on January 30, 1960.  Charles was employed at Killington Motors alongside his brother Bernard McMahon for many years before becoming a welder at Howe Richardson Scale Company. He then ventured into owning his own gas, service station for several years and before his early retirement.  He worked for many years in his home garage doing bodywork and automotive work for friends and family.  He was a master craftsman with restoring his antique 1964 Thunderbird and 1953 Willy’s Pickup.  He loved car racing and was a driver at Devil’s Bowl for years and built and raced the J-2 and the 306.

He was married to the love of his life “Jackie” and provided a home filled with love, happiness, and a bit of craziness. True love was what they shared, and he was lonely after losing Jackie, but never complained about anything.   He never complained about the numerous cars and other things that his girls got into, that he had to repair.  He was the absolute best and always had a smile on his face. He made friends with everyone he met along the way with his larger than life personality, quick wit and charm.  He was the set builder, curtain man, tap shoe repair man, studio cleaner and biggest and proudest supporter of (Miss) Jackie, Jen Missey, Bethany and Katelyn.  He was their escort for recitals and will be miss by so many.

In later years he loved working with his grandson Brent with all things, mostly pertaining to cars.  He took great care of all the grandchildren, Brent, Brittany, Bethany, Jeremy, Katelyn and Jason, helping his daughters Jennifer and Melissa in any way that he could, he was the first one at the hospital after each grandchild was born.  He was their personal taxi driver for many years and taught them all the tricks of the trade with love, patience and kindness.

He was his brother David John McMahon’s co-pilot for many years, and he had many friends, too numerous to mention, who were very important to him.  There were many coffee stops with him, vanilla milkshakes and french fry stops on those outings.

He is survived by two daughters Jennifer Garrow (GJ) and Melissa Welch (Ronald) of Rutland Town, VT.  6 grandchildren Brent, Brittany and Bethany Garrow and her fiancé Sean Maguire, Jeremy, Katelyn and Jason Welch, nieces and nephews. Two sisters Renee Czinder of Michigan and Betty Lou Mylott of Rutland.  One brother David John McMahon of Hydeville, VT. His sister-in-law Denise Chicoine (Russell) of Rutland, VT, brother-in-law’s Robert LaFlamme Jr. (Marcy) of Florence VT and Peter Laflamme (Rutland). He was pre-deceased by his parents and siblings Clarence McMahon, Bernard P. McMahon, Mary Ellen Carlson, Eleanor LaPlante, Charlotte McMahon and Barbara Jean Simonds.
