Chester B. Gates Sr.

MT HOLLY Chester B. Gates Sr., 87, of Mount Holly, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024.

He was born on June 25,1936, the son of George “Leonard” Gates and Catherine (Sprague) Gates. Chester  worked as a Contractor, handyman, did landscaping, and stonewalls. He was a long time member of the Church of Christ in Rutland, currently at Grace Evangelical Church of Spofford, NH.

Survivors include his son Chester Gates Jr. & daughter n' law  Lisa of Mt. Holly, VT; daughter Nancy Stoner & son n' law John Stoner of Lowman, NY, Susan Stromberg & son n' law Richard Stromberg of Putney, VT, and Kristin Swanson & son n' law Christopher Swanson of Troy, NY;  brother Donald Gates of Mt Holly; sister Etta Kinette of N. Springfield; and 13 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife Leona T. (Davis) Gates on August 2, 2021; both parents;  sisters Hazel Turner, Lillian Snyder; brothers Francis Gates, George Gates, Clifford Gates, and Robert Gates.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024 from 10:00AM to 11:30 AM followed by a Funeral Service at 11:30AM. Burial will follow at the Mechanicsville Cemetery in Belmont, Vermont, reception to follow at the Odd Fellows Hall in Belmont Vermont all are welcome!
