RUTLAND – Douglas E. Malone 59, of Rutland, Vermont died unexpectedly Monday, July 31, on his way home from Old Orchard Beach, Maine.
He was born in Boston, MA on November 29, 1963, and grew up in Sudbury, MA where he was very active in sports, with a special enthusiasm for Little League Baseball and Youth Hockey. He graduated in 1981 from Lincoln-Sudbury High School before earning his Associate’s Degree in Business from the University of Colorado Denver.
He left the mountains for St. Petersburg, FL where he started Malone Painting and Wallcoverings, Inc. President and CEO, his became one of the fastest growing companies in the Tampa Bay area.
Once again, the mountains called, this time home to New England. Doug spent many years between New Hampshire and Vermont working the trades he had mastered. He shared his passion for hockey (Go Bruins!), memorable sense of humor and business smarts with his son, nephews, nieces, sisters, brothers, friends and mother. He took pride in being a Live-in Caretaker for his ailing mother during the last six years of his life.
He is predeceased by his father, Charles Malone, and brothers Mark and John.
He is survived by his mother, Jonan Priscilla Malone; his son Jack Malone who is serving in the US Air Force; his sister, Susan M. Hunnewell, her husband John, and their twins Mark and Priscilla; a beloved sister-in-law, Lynn Hadley Malone, and her five children; Shane, Tristan, Zach, Derek and Faith.
Also, he is survived by his Uncle Charles Rice and wife Jeanne, of Sudbury, MA, special cousin, Priscilla Hogan of Cape Cod, MA, childhood friend, Tim Whitcomb of Bedford, NH, and Best Friend Forever, Todd Leone of Sudbury, MA and Tampa, FL.
