Edna Mitowski

Edna E. (O’Byrn) Mitowski, 92, passed away at home on Thursday, July 17, 2025.

She was born in Leicester, VT on August 3, 1932, the daughter of the late Earl and Elizabeth O’Byrn. She was raised on a dairy farm in Salisbury, VT. Edna had six siblings, Nolan, Daniel, Alan, Geraldine, Mary & Lionel.

Edna was married to Stanley J. Mitowski on June 2, 1956. They had 66 wonderful years of marriage prior to Stanley’s passing on January 10, 2022. Her eldest son Thomas E. Mitowski passed away on December 6, 2022.

Edna and Stanley had six children Thomas (Laura) Mitowski of Rutland VT, Michael (Young) Mitowski of Portland OR, Ann Marie (Scott) Devillafane of Gardner MA, Kevin Mitowski of Portland OR, Chris Mitowski of Rutland VT and Mary Mitowski of Portland OR. Edna had five grandchildren, Gabriel Devillafane of Templeton MA, Kyle Devillafane of Gardner MA, Kennedy Mitowski of Rutland VT, Collin Mitowski and Kylie Mitowski of Portland OR, and two great grandchildren, Ezra and Elias Devillafane of Templeton MA. Edna will be deeply missed by her feline companion Suzie.

For much of her married life, Edna devoted herself to raising her family at home. Once her youngest child was out of primary school, she began a career with American Greetings for more than 20 years. Edna enjoyed word search puzzles, baking especially pies and making jelly. She loved watching sports of any kind.

Edna was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka church in West Rutland. There will be no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday August 1, 2025 at 11 A.M. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, with the Rev. Richard Crawley as the celebrant.

Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Edna’s name in the form of a donation to St. Stanislaus church, Rutland Area Visiting Nurse & Hospice or Rutland County Humane Society.
