Elinor Marcella Crossman passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning July 19, 2016 at Helen Porter Health Care just after listening to her favorite Irish music played by the strings of the harp.
She was born on August 13, 1921 in Manhattan, NY to Sabina (Green) and Richard Heslin, both Irish Immigrants. She attended Parochial Schools in NYC. Elinor worked at Harriet Hubbard Cosmetics in NYC as a young woman and later moved to Wallingford, VT and worked at the American Fork and Hoe during the war effort. She met and married Wesley L. Crossman of Wallingford and they had five children together. Years later they moved to Brandon and she worked at the Brandon Training School for many years as a Matron of the Boys Dorms.
She loved Irish Music and Dance so when she took a trip to Ireland in 2001 she considered it her trip of a lifetime! She especially enjoyed receiving her Certificate of Eloquence after kissing the Blarney Stone. Another treasured trip was a Caribbean Cruise with her sister, Sabina and family.
She loved Irish humor, quotes, and politics, she enjoyed playing cards, watching TV Comedies, and chatting with company. She lived for many years in Florida and it became a much loved place for her. Her biggest joy and accomplishments were her four daughters and their families. She was always the happiest at family gatherings and ready to dance at a moments notice.
She is survived by her daughters, Charlotte Strangeway (Mike) of Rutland, Sandra Crossman and her partner Bill Hadley of Bridport, Carol Currier (David) of Proctor, and Audrey Peck (James) of Plaistow, NH. also 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Wesley E. Crossman, and an infant son Wesley R. Crossman, her two brothers, Raymond and Richard and her two sisters Sabina Hebbel, and Beatrice Woulfe.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 1:00 to 2:00pm at Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland
A funeral service will at 2:00 pm at the Funeral Home with a celebration of life to follow.
