Cuttingsville - Ellen Frances Kennedy, 82, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2016 with her husband and daughter by her side at her home in Cuttingsville, VT.
She was born March 25, 1934 the daughter of Oscar and M. Ellen (Schoonmaker) vom Eyser in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ. She spent most of her childhood in Lodi NJ, living in her grandmother’s boardinghouse. On October 21, 1953 in Clifton, NJ, she married David R. Kennedy. In 1971 they decided they’d had enough of suburban living and Dave and Ellen packed up 5 kids and moved to a 14 room farmhouse in VT. They never looked back. Ellen worked as an Answering Service Operator, Housekeeper and with Greeting Cards.
Ellen’s family was everything to her. She devoted her life to her husband, 5 children and their spouses and 12 grandchildren. She’ll be fondly remembered for her gardens, her long history of homemade Halloween costumes, family meals, holiday gatherings, her charm necklace, Jersey Shore vacations, her love of anything chocolate, weather reports, possibly her shoe collection and her ability to spot a great bargain from long range. As her family, we hope to be blessed with her capacity for love, her incredible strength and her German determination that she showed throughout her life and right up through her last moments.
She is predeceased by her parents, her step-father Bruce Lake, her uncle William Schoonmaker and her Aunt Margaret Schoonmaker.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by son Dave Kennedy and wife Karen of West Burke, VT, son Bruce Kennedy and wife Tricia of Williston, VT, daughter Denise Mueller and husband Steve of Hollister, CA, son Jeff Kennedy and wife Jennifer of Stratham, NH, daughter Susan Kennedy and husband Steve Bankert of Cuttingsville, VT. Also a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Mary and Tony Lombardo of Edison, NY, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Alice and Ted Macaluso of West Hartford, CT and many nieces and nephews.
She also leaves 12 grandchildren: Tara, Tyson, Melissa and Molly Kennedy, Grace and Brad Kennedy, Alyssa Mueller, Kaleigh and Brenden Kennedy, Joshua, Cole and Ella Bankert.
Funeral services for Ellen will be held Wednesday July 6, 2016 at 11:00am at St. Patricks Church in Wallingford, a reception will follow. Officiating will be Rev. Justin Baker, Pastor.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.
