Gail Porter, born October 20, 1952 in Waltham, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at Our House in Rutland, Vermont on March 4, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with early-onset Alzheimer’s.
Gail's life was marked by her unwavering strength, compassion, and the countless moments of joy she shared with those around her.
Interested in helping others, Gail worked in counseling for her professional life while developing a wide circle of friends through her interests in alternative therapies, drumming and any craft that gave her a chance to make something beautiful. Gail was an inveterate collector, and wherever she went she scoured her surroundings for interesting stones, shells or branches. Her excitement about life and her resilience and determination in the face of adversity inspired her loved ones and friends. Gail was also the thread that bound her extended family together.
She leaves behind her three siblings, Burt Porter (Katie) of Saratoga Springs, NY, Jamie Dritschilo (Bill) of Proctor,Vermont, and Carol Donahue (Kevin) of South Yarmouth, Massachusetts, as well as many well-loved nieces, nephews and cousins, who will continue to honor her memory. Gail was preceded in death by her parents, Burt and Carolyn (Landon) Porter of Brandon Vermont, and now rests peacefully, reunited with those she has lost.
At Gail's request, there will be no memorial service; a private family remembrance will be held later. Gail's warm spirit and enduring love will forever remain in our hearts.
We are grateful for the love and support she received from the wonderful, caring staff at Our House of Rutland, where Gail happily lived for the last six years of her life. In her honor, her family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Our House, and to organizations dedicated to Alzheimer’s research and care, reflecting Gail's enduring hope for a better future for others affected by this disease.
