Hubbardton

George Hartley, 84, of Hubbardton, VT, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026. Known for his exceptional skills as a carpenter, George was also the owner of the former Hartley's Bar, a place where he created countless lasting memories for both him and his patrons.

Sports played a significant role in George's life, bringing him immense joy through golf, bowling, softball, and especially loved watching football, a passion he maintained throughout his years.

In addition to his athletic interests, George was an avid hobbyist who took great pride in masonry, specializing in the construction of beautiful rock walls and slate gardens. One of his most cherished projects was building a field stone lighthouse, a reflection of his admiration for lighthouses and his love for living on Lake Hortonia. During quieter moments, he immersed himself in history through books and embraced travel, often accompanied by the soothing sounds of country music in the background.

George is preceded in death by his beloved spouses, Joan Hartley (2001) and Maryclaire Renner (2024). He is survived by his son, Joseph Hartley, and daughter-in-law, Lynn Mayfield, along with his grandchild, Emma Hartley, and step-grandchildren, Emma Lafaso and Kelsey Lafaso.

His contributions to the community, coupled with the love and warmth he shared with his family, will forever be cherished by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. George's spirit will live in the hearts of those he touched.

A memorial celebration will be held in the spring of 2026.
