Gerard R. Granger, 79, of Rutland City, Vermont and former snowbird in St. Augustine, F.L. during winter months, passed away in Rutland Regional Medical Center on October 8th, 2025.
Gerard was born in Rutland City, VT on September 19, 1946 the son of Madeline and Gerard H. Granger. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1967 and then served time in the Vietnam War. He retired as a Gunnery Sergeant in 1996.
Ron or Gunny (as he was often referred to) worked as a retail salesman for years at Montgomery Ward, later he worked at Rex TV Appliance until finally fully retiring and venturing to St. Augustine, Florida when the snow flew in Vermont. He was such a kickass salesman he could sell salt to the ocean.
He enjoyed deep sea fishing in his younger years in N.C. chartering his own boat, Shady Lady. He loved to golf anywhere it was green. He was a cigar enthusiast. He was an avid gardener and took pride in his rose bushes. Ron also loved to sing Elvis songs at karaoke. Ron was also a proud member of the Elks, Moose, VFW Post 648 in Rutland and VFW Post 2391 St. Augustine, Florida as well as the Marine Corps League and Golden Ages Games.
Ron is survived by his wife of 56 years, Frances E. Granger whom he married January 3, 1969, in Whitehall, N.Y. A daughter, Tonya and her husband, Edward J. Sadakierski Jr., Pa loved his two grandsons, the pitcher and the catcher, Quintin Tod Michael Sutphin and Kobe Anthony Taylor Sutphin. Poppy adored his granddaughter, the dancer/softball playing, Piper Elizabella Sadakierski. Also by his brothers, Mike Granger and his wife, Ellen Granger of Rutland, Mark Granger of Rutland and Brian Granger and his wife, Lisa Granger of Pittsford. Also by his Aunt Alberta Howard Levins of Rutland and by several nieces, nephews and by his cousins Paul and Pat Howard.
He was predeceased by his parents, Madeline and Gerard H. Granger and his stepmother, Janet Granger.
A graveside service will be held on Friday October 24, 2025 at 1 P.M. at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph, VT.
