Helen Mortenson

October 4, 1936 — October 8, 2024

Pittsford

Helen Mortenson, a treasured soul, and beloved matriarch of her family, peacefully passed away on October 8, 2024. Born on October 4, 1936, Helen left an indelible impression on all those fortunate enough to know her.

Deeply loved by her family, Helen was the supportive wife of Dan Mortenson, who predeceased her in April of 2020. The inseparable duo got married in 1967 and embarked on a journey of mutual companionship that lasted several decades. She is survived by her son, Jason Mortenson, who will carry on her legacy of resilience, as well as her nieces, Lynn and Darlene; her nephews, David, Mark, Joe, and his wife Chere; her namesake great-niece Helen; and many other great-nieces and great-nephews.

Passionate about giving back to her community, Helen was a regular attendee & organizer for many years at Granges and Local Organization. Her dedication and commitment to making a difference were highly appreciated by the community.

An avid reader, Helen found joy in the pages of romance novels. She was often found lost in a world of heartwarming characters and captivating narratives. Music also held a special place in Helen's heart, with Polka being her favorite genre, creating an aura of cheer and vivacity.

A dedicated and outspoken Yankees fan (despite the objections of her husband and son) she enjoyed the slower pace the game brought and lazy summer evenings with a ballgame on the TV.

She loved the spirit of nearly any game and in her later years often spent her free afternoons playing Aggravation and cards with her husband until his passing, and various family members when time allowed, bringing much joy and laughter to them all.

Remembered for her warm and chatty personality, Helen easily lit up any room she stepped into. Through her generously shared stories and infectious laughter, she touched many lives and created countless memorable moments.

Helen's light and love will be deeply missed, but her influence will forever resonate in the hearts of those she left behind. She was not just a family member, but a beacon of strength, love, and harmony. Her family and friends will continue to honor her life by living their own to the fullest, reflecting the love and vibrancy that Helen embodied.
