Izolina Gylys, 92, died June 9, 2022 peacefully at her home, embraced by her daughter.
Izolina was born in Lithuania and emigrated to the United States shortly after WWII. She earned a Master’s in Biochemistry from Northwestern University in Chicago. Learning was life-long, and Izolina was always learning something new each day and then sharing her new learnings, especially with her children, who received countless lessons on all aspects of what makes this world tick.
Two adjectives are always attributed to Izolina: kind and gracious. She welcomed friends to her home and would take care to prepare always an artful meal, even if it was just an ordinary day. Izolina was cheerful and never complained, though she suffered from chronic pain for many years. People were drawn to Izolina and we were always amazed at how many cherished friends she accumulated.
Izolina never lost her love for her home country. She shared her Lithuanian heritage with not only her family, but also her community at large, and was active in organizing ways for people to never forget a country suppressed by Soviet occupation.
But more than anything, Izolina had a deep abiding love for our Lord. Her days, her actions, her kindness, all came not just from her, but from a higher calling and appreciation that she was journeying through this earth destined for a blessed eternity. And, so it came to pass.
Izolina leaves two daughters, Victoria and Rita, their husbands and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Jonas, and their son, Rimas.
Calling hours will be held 5 to 7 pm, Thursday, June 16, 2022 at the Clifford Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Burial is at 11 am, Friday, June 17, 2022, at the Church of Annunciation, 7 Depot Street, Ludlow, VT.
Izolina loved flowers and passed that love to her daughters, who will grace her grave with flowers for as long as they are able. For her funeral, however, Izolina would have preferred that a contribution be made to Lithuanian Catholic Religious Aid, https://lcraid.org
