Jane Taylor

October 6, 1933 — May 19, 2021

Rutland

Jane Taylor, 87, passed away peacefully at her home in Rutland on May 19, 2021. She was surrounded by many loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

The daughter of Ralph & Marguerite Tabor, Jane was born in Quechee, Vermont on October 6, 1933.

She married Fred Taylor in March, 1960, and together they lived happily in Rutland for 61 years. They helped raise three beautiful daughters; Theresa, Carol, and Margaret. They also cared for two foster children with whom they built strong, long lasting relationships.

For many years Jane worked at the VAC (Vermont Achievement Center) as a para professional. She was the Director of the Rutland Area Hospice Program for nearly 20 years; both positions suited her servant heart. Many nights she would be seen calling a list of hospice volunteers looking for someone to sit with a dying soul. If no one answered, she would leave her family and go sit with the individual herself. Hospice was her passion and she helped teach others, as well as her family how beautiful the dying process can be. After her retirement, she worked at Rutland Public Schools for 17 years as a bus aide, which she loved; and often said that working with the children kept her young.

Jane’s talents were many; she was an extremely accomplished golfer, skier, quilter and seamstress, and often hunted alongside her husband Fred (in their younger years). She was a beloved wife; mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, as well as a friend who loved to entertain. She passed her appreciation of traveling to her family, with whom she would take annual trips to the beach in Maine. She loved to travel with Fred and their friends all over the world, which included many trips to Las Vegas where she could play the slots! She was also a frequent flyer at Saratoga Casino and Raceway, and would go with anybody who was willing, whenever she had a free moment.

She was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories.

Jane is survived by her husband Fred Taylor, two daughters; Carol Pikkarainen and Margaret Clifford (Rick).  Known by all six of her grandchildren as Memo (mee-mo) Jane leaves; Heather Bechler (Jared), Cyndee Trahan (Tim), Simeon Edson, Signe Firpo (Mike), Kaitlin Clifford, T.J. Clifford (Julia) and eight beautiful great-grandchildren which she loved dearly.

She also leaves her half-sister, Rosie Poczobut, as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her Parents; Ralph and Marguerite Tabor, Brother and sister in law; Bill and Phyllis Tabor, and daughter; Theresa Wetherby.

In lieu of flowers, Jane’s family asks that donations be made to the Rutland Area Visiting Nurse & Hospice Association, (www.vermontvisitingnurses.org/donate) and/or the Alzheimer’s Association ( act.alz.org › donate ) .
