Rutland

RUTLAND             Janet D. Alexander, 94, died on March 24, 2024, in Rutland after a short illness.

She was born on April 27, 1929, in Irasburg, VT to Maynard and Doris (Sears) Alexander. She graduated from UVM in 1951, after which she taught school for two years at Greensboro High School. Then she went to Simmons College for a master's degree in library science.

Liking travel, her first job was in Great Falls, Montana. After, she returned to Vermont for a short job in Brattleboro. From there to Wesleyan University, which was especially nice with its location. Then she decided to try education again, this time in elementary school in Colchester. But again, travel called, so she joined the Dependent School Program of Military. She worked as a school librarian in Libya, Germany, Turkey, and England. Finally, she felt she needed to settle back home, so she took a job for the Vermont Department of Libraries in Rutland and had been here for over 30 years.

Survivors include a brother Robert M. Alexander of Craftsbury, a sister Jean A Hinson of Rutland; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held at from 10am to 12pm on Thursday April 4th, 2024 at Clifford Funeral Home.

A burial will take place later in Irasburg, VT.

Arrangements are under the direction of Clifford Funeral Home.
