Janice (Roberts) Cable, a beloved mother, grandmother, great‑grandmother, aunt, and cherished matriarch, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the age of 98, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on May 15,1927 in Manchester, Vermont, and alum of Burr Burton Academy class of ’45. Janice lived a long and full life marked by deep devotion to her family, quiet strength, and enduring grace. She was the proud grandmother of 14, each of whom she adored and supported in her own thoughtful, steady way. Her Mendon, Vermont homestead was a place of warmth, tradition, and hospitality, and beautiful flower gardens.
Janice was known for her resilience, soft heart, grit, and unwavering genuine care for others. Through decades of change, she remained grounded in her values, offering wisdom freely. Her kind voice made you feel like you not only belonged but genuinely loved and welcomed. In her rich life, she demonstrated a strong work ethic managing the seven acres, running a motel in the Adirondacks, and managing La Cone Unique in Rutland with her husband. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures, like treating her grandchildren to fun Easter egg hunts, riding the lawn mower wearing her golf visor, hosting Sunday pot roast dinners, gardening, VT native birds, reading biographies, and watching various sports on TV.
She is predeceased by her husband Eugene Cable and two brothers: Charles and Norman Roberts. She is survived by her loving children: Eugene Cable (Maribeth), Jeff Cable (Teresa), Steve Cable (Donna), Julie McElhaney (Robert), and Terri Kenney (Joey), 14 grandchildren, 21 great‑grandchildren and two nephews and two nieces.
The family extends their most sincere gratitude to the dedicated staff of At Home Senior Care, Bayada, and amazing comfort care from Hospice through VNA.
A celebration of Janice Roberts Cable’s life will be held on May 16,2026 at her home in Mendon. In lieu of flowers, family asks that donations be made to:
