Jennie Sydorowich

January 1, 1931 — October 19, 2024

Ludlow

Ludlow Vt (formerly Little Neck, Queens NY)

January 1 1931 – October 19 2024

In the early hours of October 19th Jennie passed peacefully in her sleep while residing at the Gill Odd Fellows Home in Ludlow.

Jennie really enjoyed living at the Gill Home. The staff enjoyed her quick wit and her young-at-heart character. She will be missed by many at the Gill Home.

Jennie’s lifelong devotion to her faith and church were exemplary, often donating whatever was needed to various church functions throughout the years, whether it be her time selling tickets for church events, making or buying baked goods, or preparing food for many a church dinner. Whatever was needed of her, she gave willingly, and generously.

A selfless person, Jennie donated much of her time to programs she held dear. Jennie delivered for Meals on Wheels for many years, as well as ushering at the Weston Playhouse, often making and donating food for the actors and actresses. Meals on Wheels and the Playhouse were so important to her that when it came time for her to go to Marco Island Fl for the winter, she “volunteered” her nephew and his wife to fill in for her meal deliveries and ushering responsibilities (it was a long winter for both of them, but they stuck it out and fulfilled the duties bestowed upon them by their aunt)

Born in NYC, Jennie lived in Little Neck in Queens and commuted via the Q12 bus to Flushing, where she then took the subway to Chase Bank in Manhattan. Jennie worked at Chase for many years until moving to Vermont to be near her family.

Once in Ludlow, Jennie partnered with her brother, Robert, and operated Red Clover Antiques located at 119 Main St. in Ludlow for approx. 10 years. Jennie also worked at DJ’s restaurant for a number of years where she maintained the salad bar. A job she really enjoyed. Even after retiring from DJ’s, Jennie would invite her family to gather at the restaurant every year on her birthday to help her celebrate. She never left the restaurant without popping her head in the kitchen to say hi and to give her thanks.

Another passion of Jennie’s was shopping, and boy, could she shop! Jennie loved to shop, but not really for herself. She very much enjoyed buying for others and delighted in the happiness it gave her when giving away her gifts.

Cooking skills were not really one of Jennie’s strengths. However, she was known for her tasty quiches, which she made well, and often, along with stuffed peppers, a delicious meatloaf, and a pretty good eggplant Parmesan. All of which she enjoyed making for her family.

If you were fortunate to know Jennie, you also knew that she rarely minced words, and often spoke exactly what was on her mind, sometimes rather bluntly. She could rub you the wrong way, and could be as stubborn as a mule, but her generous nature and her oversized, caring heart made you forget her sharp tongue (most of the time)

Jennie is survived by her brother, Robert Sydorowich of Ludlow. Her nephew, Matthew Sydorowich and his wife Janie, also of Ludlow. Great nieces, Danielle Sydorowich of New Mexico, and Holly Sydorowich of New Hampshire.

A service for Jennie will be announced and held at a later date.

Jennie’s family would like to thank all of the staff at The Gill Home for the exceptional care provided while Jennie resided there.
