John A. Halpin Jr RUTLAND — John Andrew Halpin Jr died peacefully Saturday, August 17 at the age of 84. He was born in Rutland, Vermont in 1939 to John and Yvonne (Thompson) Halpin. Upon graduating from Mt. St. Joseph Academy as class president, John went on to St. Michael’s College and it was while there that he met Patricia Cronan who became his wife of 32 years (deceased 1996). After receiving his degree, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a 2nd Lieutenant, stationed in North Carolina and Japan. He went on to have a career with General Foods, holding various positions on the East Coast. He left General Foods, returning to Rutland where he could raise his family and where he also became co-owner of Woods Specialty House. John was a dedicated family man and he loved the game of golf, enjoying courses around the world. He is survived by his daughters Debbie (John) Kelly, Crista (Kim, deceased) Mathew and Joanne Halpin; grandchildren Ryan Kelly, Kyle Kelly, Andrew Mathew, Hannah Mathew and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Michael and sister Maryanne; survived by his brother Tom (Judy Quigley) Halpin and sister Kathleen (Ray, deceased) Canning, sister-in-law Emily Baigis and his devoted partner of 26 years, Jane Kupferer, as well as her children Scott, Susan, Laurie and their families. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be at Christ the King church on Saturday, August 24 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a graveside ceremony and a reception. Arrangements are under the direction of Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org)
