John S. Jankowski, 88, of Rutland, Vermont, passed away on May 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 22, 1938, in West Rutland, Vermont, he was the son of the late Stanley and Julia (Brutkoski) Jankowski. 

John proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Following his military service, he dedicated many years of hard work and commitment to Central Vermont Public Service, where he worked as a lineman and later Safety Director, and to Northeast Public Power Association, where he served as a Safety Consultant. He retired at the remarkable age of 80 after a long and respected career. 

John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife, Theresa (Bania) Jankowski; his children, David Jankowski, Patricia Smith (Peter), Gregory Jankowski (Kristy), Mark Jankowski (Maire), and Robert Jankowski (Renee); and his cherished grandchildren, Genna, Colby, Corey, Brady, Logan, Drake, Chase, Addison, and Ryan. He is also survived by his siblings, Stanley Jankowski, Sandra Fox, Helen Callahan, Theresa Jankowski, and Marcia Jankowski. 

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Lucy Panarello and Leona Stillings. 

John enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, especially hunting, fishing, his vegetable garden and spending time with his family, who were the center of his world. 

He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, quiet strength, and deep love for those closest to him. 

Funeral services will be at St. Stanislaus Kostka on May 18 at 1:30 PM. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to St. Stanislaus Kostka Church or Rutland Regional Ambulance Service.
