John J Lafond

PROCTOR  John J. LaFond July 3, 1938, Passed away on February 6, 2024, Son of John A. LaFond and Laura (Burke) LaFond
John left us while at home with those he loved at his side, and Mary holding him close.
He graduated from Rutland High School, later served in the US Army, upon release he continued to help the family in any way he could. In 1961 John, his father John and brother Edward started LaFond's Auto Body. Following the death of his Father and Brother John owned and ran Center Rutland Food Mart from 1967 to 1983. He continued doing auto repairs and sales and partnering with his brother Mike. Moving the shop to Proctor, VT where John worked daily until his recent illness prevented it.
In all his years John treated people fairly and honestly, doing all he could to help people along the way. He insisted on making sure the customer was satisfied.
John was predeceased by his father, John A. LaFond, Mother Laura (Burke) Lafond, Sisters Mary LaFond, Jean McDevitt and his brother Edward. Survived by his Long Time Love Mary Burke, Mary's sons Daniel (Jeremey), David (Dina), Grandsons Justin, Makana & Kainoa, his brothers Thomas (Denise), Michael (Diana) and sister Margaret Marsh. Several Nieces, Nephews and so many wonderful friends.
John gave a hell of a lot more than he took. He worked hard as a young man helping the family.
He did work for all the Auto Dealers and many of the businesses in the area, including the Police Agencies.
John befriended so many over the years it would be impossible to acknowledge all and express how much you all meant to him. Suffice it to say it would take months to list all the adventures and accomplishments in John's life. His was a life well lived and lived on his terms.
We extended heartfelt thanks to those that cared for John in the Palliative Care Unit of Rutland Hospital and to others that helped care for him.

Visiting hours will be held from 2pm to 3pm Wednesday Februay 14,2024 at Clifford Funeral Home

A memorial service will follow at 3pm Wednesday February 14, 2024 at the Funeral Home.
