Jon C. Bottomms

RUTLAND- Jon C. Bottomms, 67, of Rutland, VT died on November 18, 2024 at Rutland Regional Medical Center after a short but valiant fight against cancer.

Jon was born on October 7, 1957 in Selma, AL, the son of Clifford Bottoms and Aime Johnson.

He owned The Phoenix Martial Arts System teaching both in Rutland, VT and Salem, NY.

He received his bachelor’s degree from the College of Saint Joseph in 1980. He was inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2004, and again in 2006.

He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, he truly loved being a Dad and a Pop-Pop above all else. Beyond family his next love was Martial Arts. He discovered this passion as a child through his father and it grew to a lifelong love. Training, instructing, and sharing that passion brought him so much joy.

Survivors include his son Sean Bottomms of Pawlet, VT; daughter Kayla (Aaron Breault) Bottomms of Bennington, VT; sister Barbara Bottomms of Temple Terrace, FL; and grandchildren Parker Desraviles, Maddox Breault, and Barrett Breault.

He was predeceased by both parents; younger brother Marceau Bottoms; and older brother Kurt Bottoms.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at the Rutland, VT VFW.
