It is with great sadness that the family of Jon Michael Fitzgerald, known affectionately as "Bonz," announces his passing on December 14th, 2025, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center. Bonz was born on January 31, 1962, in Rutland, Vermont, where he spent his early years on Dana Avenue, cherished by his parents, Mary Ellen and Ralph Fitzgerald.

A proud graduate of Rutland High School in 1980, Bonz was a lifelong member of Christ the King Church. After high school, he embarked on a journey across the country, discovering the music of the Grateful Dead and touring with the band for several years. In 1984, he returned to Rutland, where he met his wife, Debbie Wetherby. That same year, Bonz transitioned from working at Metromail to honing his craft as a drywaller under the guidance of Stevie Roberts at Prowall. By 1986, he had established BMM Drywall, affectionately known as "Bonz's Mad Mudders," and he married Debbie, marking the beginning of a beautiful partnership.

In 1990, Bonz and Debbie relocated to Reno, Nevada, where he continued his work in drywall, gaining valuable experience in the Truckee, California, and Lake Tahoe areas. He acquired his California drywallers license and revitalized BMM Drywall, showcasing his exceptional craftsmanship. During their years out west until 2006, Bonz and Debbie embraced their passion for music, attending numerous music festivals and concerts, celebrating the artistry of both renowned and local musicians.

Bonz was a man of unwavering kindness and generosity, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. His deep appreciation for family and friends was a hallmark of his character. He is survived by his beloved wife, Debbie; his parents, Mary Ellen and Ralph Fitzgerald, of Sarasota, Florida; his sister, Marci Finney, and her husband Carl, of St. Pete, Florida; his twin sister, Beth Blackwell, and her husband Gary, of Valdosta, Georgia; and Mimi Roderigue and her husband Ray, of Truckee, California. He also leaves behind his mother-in-law, Cathy Wetherby; sister-in-law, Cindy Tracey; sister-in-law, Tina Davis; several nieces and nephews; and many cherished friends, including his good friend, Preston Page.

Bonz was predeceased by his natural father, Donald McGee, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Rutland Regional Medical Center for the compassionate care Bonz received during his time there. A service in his memory is being planned for the spring, with an announcement to follow.

Bonz's spirit, passion for music, and dedication to his craft will be profoundly missed. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
