Joseph "Jay" Siliski
April 28, 1962 – April 7, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joseph John Siliski, affectionally known as “Jay”, who left us on April 7, 2025, just shy of his 63rd birthday. Jay was a man who cherished the simple joys of life—working with his hands, time in the woods, helping his fellow neighbors and community, laughter with his friends, and love of family.
Born in Brattleboro, Vermont and raised in Rutland, Jay grew up with a strong sense of community and was beloved by many. A natural leader and steady presence, he served as captain of his high school football team, where he led with heart and grit. After attending Western New England College to study and play football, Jay returned to the area he loved in order to start a construction business. He then went on to serve Rutland proudly as a foreman for the City’s Recreation Department and various construction firms.
Jay found peace in nature, especially on his property in Middletown Springs, where he loved to spend time outdoors and, on occasion, raise animals. As did his father, he loved to hunt and simply take in the quiet beauty of the land. His joy came from the people and moments that mattered most—his friends and his family. Jay's warmth, wit, quiet strength, solid work ethic and generosity of spirit left a lasting mark on everyone he knew.
Jay's loving parents, Joseph and Barbara Siliski, passed before him, and he is survived by four beloved children - Shealyn, Chase, and Joseph Siliski and Jamie Weaver - as well as his siblings Kathryn Ticknor of Boston, Tanya Siliski-Morgan of Rutland and Chris Siliski of Rutland. He also held great love for his nephews, Ben Ticknor and Jack Morgan, and niece Eliza Ticknor.
Open to all, a celebration of Jay's life will be held at the Rutland Elks Club on Sunday, April 13, 2025 from 3 to 5pm. A service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Rutland on Monday, April 14, 2025 at 1:00 pm followed by Jay being laid to rest next to his parents at Evergreen Cemetery in Center Rutland.
Jay will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
