Joyce Ann Steele

Rutland-Joyce Ann Steele, 79 of Rutland, Vt died peacefully in her sleep at her home on Saturday, November 25, 2023. She was born on June 5, 1944 in Rutland, the daughter of Arnold and Norma Erickson. On July 2, 1966, Joyce married the love of her life Carl “Bud” Steele. They were married 57 years. Joyce was a dedicated educator for 41 years; 39 years were at Barstow Memorial School. Joyce loved reading mystery novels, doing her puzzles, camping, gardening, traveling and keeping in touch with her high school friends. But the thing she cared about the most was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents and her beloved pups.  Those left to cherish her memory include her husband; her daughters, Susan (Chris) Cody and Dawn (Mike) Martin; her grandchildren, Matthew Cody, Jillian (Daniel) Golematis, Joshua Cody, Ashley (Hunter) Casey, and Megan Martin; her great grandchildren, Carter Casey, Patrick Golematis, Claire Golematis, and Baby Casey. Finally, she leaves behind her loving and loyal companion, Brandy.  There will be a service at Grace Congregational Church on Friday, December 1, 2023 at 11:00. A burial will follow at Proctor Cemetery. There will be a reception following the burial, at the hall at the church. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Rutland Humane Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Clifford Funeral Home.
