Larry Richard Smith West Rutland- Larry Richard Smith passed away 7/31/26. Larry was born in Tallahassee, Florida on August 2nd,1945 to Iris (Severy)and Richard Smith. He graduated from a one-room schoolhouse in Rochester Vermont. His first job was with General Electric for 5 yrs. He then joined Agway for 20 yrs and went on to finish his working years at CVPS for 20yrs. Larry retired in 2006. He served in the U.S. army for 28 years and serviced on the West Rutland Volunteer Fire Department for 25 yrs with the last 5 yrs serving as Assist Chief.
He married Sharon A. Fredette Dec. 4th, 1965. Together they purchased their homestead in West Rutland in 1967 where they raised their daughters. They were married for 54 years, when Sharon passed June, 10 2020.
Larry enjoyed hunting and ice fishing and spending time in his workshop building benches, cabinets, bird houses and military airplanes. He also found great pride in keeping the homestead well-manicured. If you had something that was broken or not running well, he could usually fix it but if he couldn't, you knew it was time for new one.
Larry is predeceased by his parents Iris (Severy)and Richard Smith, His stepfather Walt Bedor, Wife Sharon, Sisters, Sandy Smith and Sheila Wimble.
He leaves behind; children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: daughter Jacqueline Lockwood and husband Roy of Tinmouth, Vermont, daughter Jessica and husband Fron Grabowski of West Rutland, Vermont; his grandchildren, Kyle Guyette and wife Ashley of West Rutland, Francis and wife Colleen Grabowski and William Grabowski; greatgrandchildren, Alexa and Gabriel Guyette; his brother, David Smith and sisters Jane (Bob) Peltier, Linda Armstrong and many nieces, and nephews.
Larry wished for no calling hours. There will be a public graveside burial at Calvary Cemetery Aug. 13th at 11:30am with a celebration of life immediately following at his home in West Rutland
