Rutland –Laurie A. Kapitan

Laurie A. Kapitan, 66, died Tuesday afternoon July 29, 2025 at Mountain View Center in Rutland after a long illness.

She was born October 29, 1958 in Rutland, the daughter of Andrew and Beverly (Jones) Kapitan.

Laurie’s love for her family was truly endless. She poured her heart into creating a joyful, adventure-filled childhood for her children, their cousins, and even their friends — building memories that will last a lifetime. Her home was the heart of every holiday and family gathering, filled with laughter, music, incredible meals and her unwavering commitment to make sure everyone felt loved and welcome.

Laurie was known for her selflessness — always putting the needs of others before her own. Her compassion extended far beyond her family. She took great pride in her work as a school bus driver for children with disabilities, cherishing the students she transported and treating each one with the love and care she gave her own family. Making their days brighter was more than a job — it was a calling.

But above all, Laurie’s favorite role was being “Grammie” to her grandsons, Logan and Bastian. The bond they shared was extraordinary and deeply rooted — a love that remains unbreakable and everlasting.

She is survived by her children, David Sadowski of Coventry, RI, Jessica Fredette and Jeff Sadowski, both of Rutland. Also by her sister, Mary Harris, of Sarasota, FL brother Julius Kapitan, of Rutland, VT and sister Debra (Steven) Spencer of Vancouver, WA, her grandchildren, Logan and Bastian Fredette of Rutland and several nieces and nephews. She will be missed dearly by all.

She was predeceased by her parents, brother, Douglas Kapitan and niece Juliette Kapitan.

There will not be any calling hours or formal services at Laurie’s request. A celebration of life will be held in the fall - Laurie’s favorite time of year.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Rutland Humane Society or the VNA & Hospice of the Southwest Region, who were like extended family to Laurie and always provided compassionate care.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home. Online condolences at www.cliffordfuneralhome.com
