Linda J. Sloan

August 11, 1959 — March 14, 2025

Proctor

Linda Jean (Gates) Sloan died Friday, March 14, 2025, at Rutland Regional Medical Center with her family and beloved dog, Daisy, by her side. She was born on August 11, 1959, in Springfield, VT, to Dorothy (O’Dell) Mazzella and Robert Gates.

Linda grew up in Mount Holly on her family’s property on Gates Road. She met the love of her life, Gary Sloan, in 1976 and the two were married on November 12, 1977. On March 14, 1978, they welcomed their first son, Gary jr, and on July 11, 1980, they welcomed their second son, Dana.

Linda spent her life keeping busy. She enjoyed cleaning cabins on Okemo; working as a lunch server in her boys’ school in Mount Holly; she was a longtime manager of Pick-a-Flick video store in West Rutland; she worked in the K-Café at Kmart; and she was a baker at Tastee Bakery and Jones Donuts, where several loyal patrons sang her praises for her incredible baking skills.

She loved her family deeply and especially loved being a grandma to her only grandchild, Haili. They shared an incredible bond and the two were inseparable, with Papa often playing the role of “third wheel”.

Linda is survived by her husband, Gary, of Proctor; her son, Gary jr., also of Proctor; her son, Dana, his wife, April, and granddaughter, Haili, of Rutland; her sister, Carol Dionne and her husband, Ed, of Rutland; her sister Angie Trachte and her husband, Rick, of Moses Lake, Washington; her brother, Robert Bailey of Rutland; her sister, Tina Robinson, of Manchester, New Hampshire; and brother, Charles Robinson, of Hillsborough, NH.

She was predeceased by both of her parents.

Calling hours will be Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 4-6pm at Clifford Funeral Home.

The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude and thanks to the staff on the third floor of Rutland Regional Medical Center. Your care, compassion, and kindness to Linda during her five-month stay was well above and beyond expectations, and for that, we are eternally grateful.
