Lucian J Wiskoski 93, passed away peacefully on March 22,2024. He was a beloved, father, husband, and well respected member of his community.
Lucian was born August 8, 1930 to Stanislaw and Marya Wiskoski in West Rutland Vermont and was the youngest of nine children.
Lucian married the love of his life M. Joan Goodness on April 3, 1956 at Christ the King Church in Rutland Vermont. He was first and foremost a family man and enjoyed many vacations, day trips, and holidays with his family. He enjoyed traveling with his friends and lived life to the fullest.
Lucian graduated in 1948 from West Rutland High School and was a member of the 1948 state championship basketball team that went on to play in the New England tournament held at the Boston Garden that year.
Lucian entered the Navy and served on the aircraft carrier the USS Coral Sea from November 1948 and was honorably discharged in December 1949 to pursue the profession of pharmacy. In 1955 Lucian graduated from Albany College of Pharmacy and went on to work as a registered pharmacist with his brother-in-law Bob at Carpenter’s Pharmacy and later his nephew Rob until his retirement. He then worked per diem at Brown’s pharmacy in Brandon. He was a member of the Vermont Pharmacists Association for over 40 years including District Director in the 1980’s. In 1993 Lucian received the prestigious Bowl of Hygeia award for outstanding pharmacists in their community from the Vermont Pharmacists Association. In 1995 Lucian received the award for Service to the Community from the Albany College of Pharmacy Alumni Association.
Throughout his life, Lucian served his profession and his community. He was a member of the West Rutland School Board, was a town selectman, was on the town planning board and was instrumental in developing the West Rutland Industrial Park. He held a real estate license, was a Eucharistic minister at Saint Bridget’s Church, and was a member of the Elks club and the West Rutland American Legion.
Lucian still had time for his hobbies though and he loved hunting and fishing and just getting out in the woods for a walk. He was a Boston Red Sox fan and a New York Giants fan and upon retirement enjoyed golf.
Lucian was a wonderful man who lead a quiet life of great integrity. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 59 years Joan and is survived by his two daughters who adored him, Mary Ellen Eaton (Benjamin) of Chatham, New York, and Monica Wiskoski of West Rutland, Vermont.
He is also predeceased by his eight siblings, and survived by several beloved nieces and nephews .
Calling hours will be held from 10am to 12pm Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Mullin-Clifford Funeral Home in West Rutland.
A service will follow at 12pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family would request that you make memorial contributions to either the West Rutland Fire Department, 217 Marble St, West Rutland, VT 05777, or a veterans organization of your choice.
