Mark J. Candon died unexpectedly on November 28, 2023 near Pico Mountain, where he first skied in 1960. He was 71.
Mark grew up in Proctor, Vermont, the son of James and Ann (née Dynan) Candon and the youngest of seven siblings. He graduated from Proctor High School and was part of seven state championship teams. He played soccer at Brown University, graduating in 1974. Mark married Debbie Degnen in 1984. They moved to Boston, where he began a career in finance; three kids followed. Mark was a talented skier and golfer, a talentless hunter, and a lifelong member of Proctor-Pittsford Country Club. He took a great interest in local politics and was the Republican candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives for Vermont in 1998. For the last 28 years, he worked as an investment executive at Moors & Cabot in Rutland.
He is survived by his wife Debbie; son Justin and his wife Nicole (née Doucette) of Darien, CT; daughter Molly of Philadelphia, PA; daughter Reilly and her husband Eoghan Quinn of County Mayo, Ireland; grandchildren Mark, Elizabeth, and John David; siblings Nance, James, Mary Rita, and Kevin; dog Echo; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends.
