RUTLAND Mary Grace Haynes, 69, died on October 3, 2024 in her home surrounded by family. Mary was born on February 28, 1955 in Rutland, VT, the daughter of Charles and Josephine (Sangra) Haynes.
She attended St. Peters School and Mount Saint Joseph Academy, graduating in 1973.
She worked as a nurse’s aide for a few years at Pleasant Manor Nursing Home, then at Brandon Training School for 16 years. She then became a para-educator for the Rutland School System for 27 years before retiring in 2021. This job brought her so much joy as she loved children.
She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, going to Maine, eating lobster, riding the waves, eating hot penunche sundaes, playing the lottery, and going to Saratoga Racetrack.
She was an excellent cook and enjoyed sharing her recipes with her nieces and nephews, especially her Stromboli, stuffed artichokes, and chex mix. She loved to travel and was so happy to be able to visit her family in Sicily twice.
Survivors include her brother David (Janet) Haynes, sister Patty (Gary) Godnick; nieces and nephews Barbara (Anna), Griffin and Emma Bailey, Paul (Dawn), Katie and Eli Haynes, Jonathan, Becky, Tucker and River Haynes, Jeffrey Haynes, Amy Jo Godnick, Mary Jo Godnick, Sarah Jo Godnick; sister-in-law Donna Haynes and Alice (Allie) Monica, whom she cared for in her home for more than 16 years. She also leaves behind many special cousins, step nieces and nephews, and an amazing group of friends.
She was predeceased by both parents and brother John F. Haynes.
The family wishes to thank Dr Mary Drinane and her staff at Dartmouth Medical Center, Dr. Allan Eissemann and his staff at the Foley Cancer Center, the staff at RRMC Infusion Center, and the Glens Falls Hospital Interventional Radiology Center for the exceptional care given to Mary Grace over the past few years.
Also, thank you to the staff of Community Hospice of Saratoga for the excellent care that allowed us to keep Mary at home during her final weeks, especially nurses Vicky, Lisa, Annah and Danielle, and social worker Karen.
