The family of Peter and Nanette Sebring, husband and wife, of Manchester, VT, announce their recent deaths with great sorrow.
Nanette Sebring, née Rich, 74, an accomplished painter, died suddenly at home on March 24, 2024. Nanette was born in 1949 in Plainfield, NJ to Joshua Alan Rich and Helen Barbier Rich. Nanette studied fine arts at Wilson College in Pennsylvania. Nan was an art teacher at the Ranney School in Tinton Falls, News Jersey, later focusing on her artwork. Throughout her career, Nan painted flora and animal scenes, working first on canvas but eventually transitioning to creating her art on recycled doors, stools, and tables. She worked at the Woman’s Exchange in Little Silver NJ, a nonprofit store that donated its proceeds to charity. She participated in community activities to support the local Little Silver Elementary School, by being a guest speaker, volunteering at school events, and tending to the school’s community garden. Nan was involved in house flipping and interior design, each house she owned with her family she would paint designs all throughout the house, including the front door. Nan enjoyed both going to tag sales and running them with her friends. During her sales, she would show her newest paintings and sell them. Her artwork became a hit while being sold at the former Bob Burgess’ Consignment store in Manchester VT. Nanette and her son opened a space in the original 1820 House antique store of Danby VT. Nan was a very caring and socially-minded person and will be missed by her family, neighbors and friends. Nan is survived by her two sons, her sister Jean Britz of Ocean Port, NJ and her two children.
Peter, 85, who retired from the postal service in 1996, died at Glens Falls Hospital on June 13, 2024 after dealing with multiple health problems. Peter was born in Point Pleasant, NJ to Armando (“Pete”) Califat Sebring and Josephine (“Jean”) Newman Sebring. He pursued studies at Brookdale Community College in Lyncroftt, NJ. Before entering his career at the Post Office, Peter was a man of many talents: he was honorably discharged from the Coast Guard; he did marine dredging at his uncle Russel Lechard’s Lechard Dredging Company; he was a volunteer firefighter in Ocean Port, NJ; and he worked with Electronic Associates, Inc (EAI). When Peter first worked at the Post Office he was a temporary Letter Carrier in Ocean Port NJ. Then became a full time Letter Carrier in the Little Silver Post Office. Peter would be a Letter Carrier for several years, but had to stop due to a broken arch in his foot. Soon he became the Window Clerk at the Little Silver Post Office, where he garnered a great reputation amongst the town. Retiring in 1996 after 30 years of government service, Peter’s great passion was woodworking, and using tools to carve wooden items, or to fix problems around the home. He had health problems throughout his life and took it upon himself to read about heath and nutrition, knowledge he liked to share with others. From his time on the window of the Little Silver Post Office, Peter always enjoyed talking to people.
Peter and Nanette met at the post office in the 1970s when they struck up a conversation about their shared interest in photography. The couple married in 1980. They made their home in Rumson, NJ and then in Little Silver, NJ. After retirement, the family moved to Manchester, Vermont. Peter and Nanette are survived by their sons Drew Sebring and Jeffrey Sebring.
