Peter Read Shaw

Peter Read Shaw, age 90, died peacefully on May 1, 2026, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Bronxville NY on October 6, 1935, the son of Richard H and Helen (Read) Shaw.

Peter was a 1953 graduate of Plainfield NJ High School. He came to Rutland in 1960 and found his dream job as a ski instructor at the Killington Ski area. In 1962 he went to work for Moore Business Forms in Rutland and had a 30 year career there. He spent many years teaching young people to ski as an instructor in the Pico Junior Program.

Peter married the love of his life, Mary Ellen Whalen, in 1975 and they had 50 wonderful years together. Peter loved skiing, fishing and camping. He cherished the 25 summers that he and Mary Ellen spent on Crystal Lake in Barton VT.

Survivors are his wife, Mary Ellen, and a nephew, Courtney Glenn and his family of Ithaca NY.

At Peter’s request there will be no calling hours or public funeral service. There will be a private burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Brandon.
