Rutland- Phillip Arthur Carroll, 84, of Rutland died peacefully at home on Monday December 30, 2024 surrounded by family. He was born on December 15, 1940 in Portland, ME the son of Walter and Loretta (Tanguay) Carroll. Phil was raised in Barre, VT and graduated from Spaulding High School class of 1958 and Vermont Technical College in 1961. He was employed by CVPS for over 33 years. He served with the Vermont Air National Guard, retiring as a Master Sergeant after 24 years.
Phil enjoyed spending time at his camp, hunting, snowmobiling, camping with his family, traveling south with his RV and attending his grandchildren’s activities.
He was an altar server for many years at IHM parish and a volunteer driver for the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the American Legion, Moose Club, VFW, Mendon Fish and Game, and the Chittenden Dammers.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years Florence; daughters Marie (Larry) Petitjean of South Dartmouth MA, Margaret (Tim) Taft of Huntington VT, and Michele (Tom) Geisler of Rutland VT; grandchildren Brady Geisler, Erin Geisler, and Kyle Taft. Phil is also survived by several nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law Ann Murdock and Aline LaPerle and brother-in-law Paul Dumond. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother Ronald Murdock; sisters Marilyn Schten, and Nancy Murdock; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 pm Friday January 3, 2025 at Clifford Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at 11am Saturday January 4, 2025 at Saint Alphonsus in Pittsford. Burial will be held in the spring at the Vermont Veterans Cemetery in Randolph.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Foley Cancer Center c/o RRMC 160 Allen St. Rutland VT 05701. Arrangements are under the direction of Clifford Funeral Home.
