Clarendon

Raymond Anthony "Ray" Cristelli, 82 of Clarendon, passed away surrounded by his family on April 12, 2024 after a long illness.

Ray was born on May 20th, 1941 in Rutland, the son of Donato and Maud Cristelli. He worked for years in automotive repair, owning Cristelli's Auto Body until his retirement. A lover of life, Ray brought laughter and joy to those around him.

When not hard at work, Ray loved being outside. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, both in the neighboring town of Shrewsbury and on his yearly trips to Oklahoma. His love of hunting also led to a love of firearms. He bought, sold, and collected guns for over 50 years, often driving through most of New England to add to his collection.

In the 90s Ray was part of a team that became a dynasty in the Rutland Music Pool League. They won several league titles over the years, and Ray also collected many individual accolades for his play. He practiced every night in his basement, and enjoyed playing against the best players in the area.

Above all, Ray loved golf. Even though he came to the sport later in life, he spent countless hours on the course perfecting his swing. He would often play 36 or more holes in a day and quickly earned the nickname “Tiger Ray”. After his retirement, you could always find him at Proctor-Pittsford Country Club where he would play multiple days a week. His infectious laughter and creative scorekeeping will be missed by all who played with him.

Ray was predeceased by his brother Phillip, sister Rosalie, and granddaughter Vanessa.

He is survived by his children Wendy Turner and her husband Rodney of Rutland; Dan Cristelli and his wife Laura of Milton; Tracy Yendell and her husband Dave of Rutland; Doug Vandenburgh and his wife Jennifer Watson of Saint Joseph, Illinois; and his grandchildren: Sabian Turner of Rutland; and Trent Cristelli of Milton. He will also be missed by his constant feline companion Izzy.

A celebration of life will be planned for this summer. Memorial contributions can be made to the Rutland County Humane Society, 765 Stevens Road, Pittsford, VT 05763.

Arrangements are under the direction of Clifford Funeral Home.
