Raymond James Gandy

January 28, 1952 — October 17, 2025

Ira

Raymond James Gandy, 73, passed away peacefully at his home in Ira, Vermont on October 17th, surrounded with love, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on January 28, 1952, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, Raymond spent his early years there before making Vermont his home in the 1970s.

Raymond was a devoted father to his daughters Cara Pepler of Somersworth, NH, and Jami Gandy of Ira, VT; a proud father-in-law to Daniel Pepler; and a deeply cherished Pop Pop to Maya and Levi Pepler. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Jean and Robert Browne, his cousin Edward Skwira, nephews Paul and David Browne, and great-grandnephew Everett. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Jenny (née Juarez) Gandy and Anton Gandy.

A graduate of Perth Amboy High School, Raymond built a long and dedicated career as a freight truck driver, traveling both locally and across the country. Known for his steady hands and calm under pressure, he could handle any road or condition with skill and pride.

Raymond was a man full of stories, laughter, and heart. A natural jokester, he had a way of keeping things light and lifting spirits wherever he went. Above all, he was dependable, and instilled in his children a deep sense of integrity, hard work, and the value of family.

He found joy in life’s simple pleasures- fishing, riding his Harley, and tending his gardens. More often than not, you could find him in his garage, music blasting -classic rock or country- as he tinkered, organized, and enjoyed the day.

A celebration of Raymond’s life will be held on Sunday, November 9, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Ira Town Hall.

Arrangements are under the care of Clifford Funeral Home.
