Richard P. King Obituary
It’s with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Richard P. “Dick” King of Plainville, Connecticut, on January 6, 2026, at the age of 80.
Dick was born on February 12, 1945, in Hartford, Connecticut, where he grew up. He attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1967, and was a proud member of the Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity. Dick furthered his education at American International College, where he earned his MBA. He went on to have a long and successful career in manufacturing, where he applied his sharp intellect, problem-solving skills, and strong work ethic.
He was truly the life of the party, known for his quick wit, storytelling, and ability to make everyone feel welcome. A natural problem-solver, he could fix just about anything and was always willing to lend a helping hand around the house or to anyone in need. He also had a genuine love for cooking, often bringing people together through meals prepared with care and pride. His generosity of spirit extended beyond his family, as shown through his dedicated membership in the Knights of Columbus, where he lived out his faith through service, fellowship, and commitment to helping others.
Dick is pre-deceased by his wife of nearly 54 years, Betsy. He is survived by his three sons Christopher King (Kathy), Gregory King (Michelle), Andrew King (Adriana), seven grandchildren Rebecca, Matthew, Rachel, Emma, Juliana, Ryan, and Lillian, and four great grandchildren Axton, Aria, Eden, and Eleanor.
Dick’s life will be celebrated at the Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville, CT 06085 on Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Church, 134 Convent Avenue, Rutland Vermont 05701 on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 11:00 AM.
