Obituary for Richard R. White, Sr.

NORTH CLARENDON. Richard R. White, Sr. (Dick) of North Clarendon, Vermont passed from this life on Friday, October 25, 2024 at his home with members of his family by his side.  He was born in Rutland, Vermont on October 24, 1930 the son of Russell and Eileen (Carlson) White.  He was a graduate of Rutland High School, Class of 1948.  He served from 1950 to 1952 in the U.S. Army, 43rd Infantry Division, stationed in Germany, and attained the rank of Master Sargent.  He made many life-long friends through his military service.  He married Ann Marie Fitzsimmons in 1950, and she died in 1975.  He married Phyllis Mack Davis in 1977, and she died in 2020.  He was employed for 42 years by Central Vermont Public Service in various positions until his retirement.  He was a life member of the Clarendon Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the American Legion Post 31 Color Guard for many years, and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Rutland.  He loved to hunt and fish, and generally to be outside in the woods and on a lake.  Later in life he enjoyed selling Christmas trees that he grew on his land.  Survivors include his sons, Richard R. White, Jr. (Susan) of Springfield, Vermont, and Jeffrey P. White (Maureen) of Rutland, Vermont; daughters Lynn M. Bourne (Gene) of Wallingford, Vermont, and Stacie Zavistaski (David) of Rutland, Vermont; Grandchildren Katharine Gryczkowski, Grant White, Evan Bourne, Erin Bourne, Brendan White, Cedric White, Jarred Arbour, Jordan Arbour, Jillian Zavistaski, Kristen McCabe and Alexa Weiderhorn; and several great grandchildren.  He was pre-deceased by his second wife Phyllis’ children, Marsha Weiderhorn, Carla Bouley, and Gregory Davis.  There will be no calling hours.  A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 4, 2024 at Christ The King Church in Rutland, with burial to follow at St. Josephs Cemetery in Rutland.   A reception at Engle Hall at the Church will follow burial.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Clarendon Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 168, North Clarendon, VT 05759, or to the Rutland County Humane Society, 765 Stevens Road, Pittsford, VT 05763.  The family wishes to express our heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of the VNA & Hospice of the Southwest Region for the care and kindness provided to our father/grandfather during years of care.
