Robert C. Gates, 90, of Belmont  passed away Sunday February 4, 2024 at his home.

He was born June 22, 1933 in Mt. Holly, the son of George Leonard and Catherine (Sprague) Gates.

Robert was employed as a farmer for many years, Fellows Machine Shop, a carpenter and remodeling specialist, retiring in 2004.

Surviving are his wife Zena (Simonds) Gates of Belmont, two daughters, Linda Sloan of Proctor and Carol Dionne of Rutland, a step-daughter Donna Aikens of Bellows Falls, one son, Robert Bailey of Rutland, one sister Etta Kennett of North Springfield, two brothers, Chester Gates of Putney and Donald Gates of Belmont, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by three brothers, Clifford, Francis and George Gates and by two sisters, Hazel Turner and Lillian Snyder.

Funeral services will be held at Clifford Funeral Home in the spring with burial to follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Wallingford.
