Robert W. (Bob) Coons passed away on February 5, 2026, surrounded by his children. Bob was born on February 24, 1934, in North Adams, Massachusetts to Earl and Agnes (Foy) Coons. He graduated from Drury High School in 1951. Bob worked in his father’s construction business and volunteered for several youth and service organizations and school boards. Bob was volunteer drafted into the Army and saw duty in Korea in 1955- 1957. He was honorably discharged.

Bob married Carolyn Morin in June of 1957, and they settled in Williamstown MA and raised three children. Bob ran his own construction business for many years. He built many homes in the area. In 1978 the family relocated to the Proctor VT area. He taught night school courses at the Vocational Technical School. In Vermont Bob was a superintendent for the Russell Construction Corp., Birch Hill, and Smalley Corp. as well as working as a self-employed contractor for many years.

Bob was a member of the Saint Dominic’s Church in Proctor serving on the Parish Council and as an usher, sacristan, and eucharistic minister. He was a member of the Selective Service Board. Every year for decades Bob put the flags on the graves of the Proctor veterans. He served the Town of Proctor as Zoning Administrator from 2003-2020, Health Officer, Planning Board, and Chairman of the Riverside Cemetery. He was featured as a WCAX Super Senior in 2018. He was proud of having installed the flagpole at the Korean Memorial in Rutland VT.

When not working Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and was well known for his large vegetable garden. His sense of humor will be fondly remembered and missed by his friends and family.

Bob was predeceased by his wife Carolyn in 1994, his brother Ernest Coons, sister Jean Hayden, and by his parents. He is survived by his three children – Wendy Bizzarro and her husband Bob of Brandon Vermont and their children Carrie (Steven) Waterman and Kristen Bizzarro; Laurie Canty and her husband Brad of Clarendon VT; and son William Coons and his partner Neil Johnson of Broadlands VA. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. There will be no funeral service. The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date.
