Bomoseen

Robert W. “Bob” Prenevost, 78 of Bomoseen, VT passed away peacefully on December 8 with his loving family by his side. Bob was born in Rutland, VT on April 24, 1947 to Robert and Lucille (Sharp) Prenevost. He graduated from Rutland High School in 1965, where he met his high school sweetheart Nancy Alexander. They were married in 1969 and spent 56 wonderful years together. Bob attended Castleton State College and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1969. He knew early in his college career that he wanted to pursue teaching and coaching as a profession. Upon graduation, he was offered a teaching position at Chittenango High School outside of Syracuse, NY where he taught American History and coached basketball, football, and baseball. He earned his Master’s Degree in Education from SUNY Cortland in 1971. In 1977, Bob, Nancy and their young family moved back to the area and settled in Bomoseen, VT. He accepted a teaching position at Whitehall High School in Whitehall, NY where he taught American History and coached varsity basketball and football. His coaching journey then continued across the border at Fair Haven Union High School where he spent an additional 27 years as the varsity basketball coach. In total his career spanned 47 years as a teacher and 54 years as a coach. Vermont State University inducted him into the Class of 2025 Hall of Fame recognizing his many years of service in the field of education and athletics. Bob certainly touched the lives of countless students, athletes, coaches, parents, educators, and friends over the years. He was meticulous in his preparation both in the classroom and in the gym or on the field. His fundamental principles focused on organization, discipline, and attention to detail. What he truly cherished the most were the personal relationships he formed. Those who knew him well loved his sense of humor, dedication, and selfless demeanor. Bob was a sports enthusiast who appreciated athletic competition on every level. He was also an avid golfer who loved competing with his friends. He was a member at the Rutland Country Club where he played golf most days during his retirement. Aside from his athletic interests, he also loved to read, spend time outdoors, and vacation at the ocean. The true joy in his life was spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband, father, father in law, and grandfather who cherished the special family bond he helped to create within the family circle. “What you leave behind is not engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.” Bob is survived by his wife Nancy, son Jason (Shellene) of Castleton, VT; daughter Kristen Ramey (Eric) of Fair Haven, VT, and his four grandchildren (Aubrey Ramey, Sawyer Ramey, Elena Prenevost, Millie Prenevost). Our family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Bradley Berryhill, Dr. Michael Robertello, and the entire nursing staff at RRMC for the medical care and support they provided. There will be no calling hours or funeral services. A private ceremony will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warriors Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
