Roberta (Betty) nee Liljeroth Wortman 98, died peacefully on November 23rd, 2023 in Rutland, Vt.
She was born in Rochester, Vt. as the daughter of Walter Liljeroth and Hazel (Calkins) Liljeroth. Betty was married to Edmund Wortman on November 27th, 1943.
Betty was predeceased by her husband Ed, her sons Gayle Wortman and Randy Wortman, son-in-law Dave Lewis, and her sister, Helen Seward her brothers, Cecil Lawrence, Donald Lawrence and Kenneth Lawrence and her twin brother Robert who died at birth.
She is survived by her daughters, Paula Smith-Taylor of Austin,Texas, Penny Macfarlane (Jack) of Rutland,Vt. ,Kelly Lewis of Poultney,Vt, daughters – in -law Gloria Zarotny and Kim Wortman, her brother Leo Lawrence and sister-in-law Priscilla Wortman.
She was the proud grandmother of 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was employed by Vt. Accident Insurance Co. after graduating from Rutland High School in 1943 until her marriage. She later worked at the Rutland News Co. for 14 years and was a volunteer at the RRMC. She was the Rutland Women’s Candlepin Bowling Champion for many years and was responsible for forming the Cloverette League. During her later years she enjoyed monthly lunches with a group of her high school girlfriends and playing Bingo a couple of times per week. She could often be seen sitting on her porch and enjoyed chatting with many of the neighborhood walkers. She loved to dance, sing, write poetry and stories.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and her family meant everything to her. Betty was a caring and loving person who was loved by everyone who knew her.
The family would like to thank the staff at Mt. View Genesis.
There will be no calling hours and the family will have a private remembrance.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford’s Funeral Home.
