Ron Thompson, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on May 13, 2024, at the age of 85. He was a man of great energy, passion, and love for life, whose adventurous spirit touched everyone he met.
Born on January 23rd, 1939, Ron grew up with a love for the outdoors that would follow him throughout his life. An avid kayaker, skier, gardener, and hiker, he enjoyed peace in nature, often exploring the beautiful landscapes of Vermont and beyond. He found inspiration on his many adventures to create watercolor canvases and remember the memories he made along the way.
Ron also had a profound love for sailing, spending countless hours navigating the waters of the East Coast and Chesapeake Bay. Ron found joy and tranquility sailing through the waves and open horizon. His experiences not only brought him closer to nature, but also allowed him to share unforgettable moments with friends and family, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
Ron had a distinguished career as an airline pilot, a profession that allowed him to see the world from a unique perspective. His skill and dedication were admired by colleagues and passengers alike. After many years in the skies, he retired, but his zest for life and adventure never waned.
In addition to his aviation career, Ron was a talented and passionate builder. Over the years, he built close to a dozen houses in Vermont, each one a testament to his hard work, creativity, and love for his family. These homes stand as a legacy of his craftsmanship and his commitment to creating spaces filled with warmth and love.
Ron was a devoted family man. He was preceded in death by his late beloved wife, Louise; his children, Debbie Skotnicki and Jeffrey Thompson; his grandchildren, Amanda Nelson, Chris Skotnicki, Mitchell and Jeffrey Jr Thompson; and great grandchildren, Teagan and Ethan Nelson. His family was his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He will be remembered for the countless memories of shared adventures and laughter.
A celebration of Ron's life will be held Clear River Inn and Tavern in Pittsfield. A notice with the date will be put in the Mountain Times and posted around Pittsfield when determined.
Ron's legacy of love, adventure, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
