Rosemarie Herbert

Rosemarie Herbert, a lifelong resident of West Rutland, passed away peacefully in her home on February 23, 2026. She was born August 28, 1937 to John and Rose (O’Rourke) Harte, whose love of family and strong faith shaped the foundation of her life.

In August of 1961, Rosemarie married Robert Herbert, moved to a beautiful home, and raised their family. Rosemarie enjoyed all Vermont seasons, including summer Sundays on Lake St. Catherine, swimming, and enjoying time with family and friends. She found her greatest joy in family gatherings, especially celebrating St. Patrick’s Day and Christmas surrounded by those she loved. She was a committed and enthusiastic supporter of her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, cheering them on with pride. Rosemarie had an extraordinary gift for making everyone feel special, offering a helping hand, and never missed sending birthday cards. She treasured her lifelong friendships, maintaining close bonds and relishing in time spent together. A graduate of Castleton Teachers College, she dedicated more than 40 years to shaping young minds as an elementary education teacher at West Rutland School, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students. In retirement, she cherished time spent with fellow retired teachers and remained active through balance and tai chi classes at the Castleton Senior Center. A faithful member of St. Bridget’s Church, her Catholic faith was central to her life. Her kindness, humor, and deep devotion to family, friends, students, and faith will always be remembered by those whose lives she touched.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert, and by her brothers, Thomas and Michael Harte, and several brothers and sisters-in-law. She is survived by her sister, Joan Keefe of Rutland, VT; her sister-in-law, Jean Herbert of Florida; her children and grandchildren; John Herbert of West Rutland, VT; Robert Herbert and his wife Lauren of Pawlet, VT, and their children Quinn Herbert and his wife Allison, Andrew Herbert, Hannah Herbert, and Carol Herbert; Lynne Herbert of South Burlington; and Kelley Paquin of West Rutland, VT, and her children Ella Paquin and Samuel Paquin. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 26, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Clifford’s Funeral Home in Rutland, VT. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bridget’s Church in West Rutland on Friday, February 27, at 1:00 p.m.
