It is with great sadness that the family of Sharon Irene Stella, age 78, announces that she passed away peacefully on April 17, 2025 at her home ‘The Maples’ in Rutland, Vermont.
Sharon was born on May 28, 1946 in Danbury, CT to Harold and Irene (Hugyo) Bassett and grew up in Newtown, CT. She was a devoted member of Christ the King Roman Catholic Church in Rutland and also attended St. Patrick’s Church in Wallingford. Her Catholic faith was central to her life.
She was a graduate of Newtown High School (1964) and received a Nursing Degree from the Norwalk Hospital School of Nursing (1968) in Norwalk, Ct. She worked at Norwalk Hospital until 1976 and then moved to Vt. where she worked at Rutland Regional Medical Center until her retirement in 2010. She loved to tap dance, travel and had a passion for playing word puzzles and bingo. Throughout her life she was always one to offer a helping hand to those around her. She was also well known for remembering birthdays, anniversaries and many other occasions to friends and family with long, heartfelt messages.
Sharon is survived by her sister, Gail Bassett and partner Frank Barata (Litchfield, CT) and brother, Harold (Skip) Bassett II and his wife, Paula, of State College, Pa., nephews Ryan Bassett of Grand Rapids, MI and William Bassett and his wife Brittany and their daughters, Penny, Luna and Olive of Alburtis, Pa. as well as numerous cousins and dear friends.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday April 28,2025 from 4-6 pm at Clifford Funeral Home, located at 2 Washington Street Rutland.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday April 29, 2025 at 11 AM, at Christ the King Church, Rutland with the Rev. Msgr Bernard Bourgeois as the celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
A Celebration of Life will follow at ‘The Maples Sugar House’ on the ground floor.
Donations in Sharon’s memory may be made to Foley Cancer Center, 160 Allen St., Rutland or VNA & Hospice of the Southwest Region, 7 Albert Cree Dr. Rutland.
